Bonus strategy is where more operator margin is destroyed than in any other commercial decision. And it is the least analytically rigorous decision most teams make.

Your CRM team measures bonus redemption rate. Your finance team measures bonus cost as a percentage of GGR. Nobody measures the LTV distribution of bonus-acquired players compared to non-bonus-acquired ones in the same acquisition channel.
The Bonus Margin Preservation Framework:
1. Build a bonus-LTV correlation model. For every bonus tier, what is the 90-day GGR of players acquired at that offer level?
2. Identify your bonus-to-genuine-player conversion rate. Of every 100 players who claimed a welcome bonus, how many deposited a second time without a bonus trigger?
3. Set a bonus-free acquisition test. Run a traffic source for 30 days with a reduced or zero welcome bonus. Measure the player quality difference.
4. Build a tiered bonus ladder based on predicted player value, not on deposit amount. Small depositors with high-frequency signals deserve better offers than large depositors with single-session signals.
5. Cap total bonus cost as a percentage of expected 90-day GGR per cohort. Not as a percentage of total GGR.
You are not losing margin on bonuses. You are losing margin on bonuses given to the wrong players. The data to fix this is already in your CRM.
